story, magic, and art
When is the last time you found yourself in the center of the story?
I hate that we don’t yet have the vocabulary to succinctly describe the story and art I like to make. I can’t just say “I’m a writer” or “I design games.” It’s a little trickier than that. So grab your machete and let’s tame a few paragraphs together.
Fundamentally, I find it fascinating how much more people invest in a story when they get to make choices that matter. So I put people in the middle of the story with enough agency to feel responsible for their triumphs and catastrophes, but I inject enough of my own control to ensure the pace, journey, and outcome are satisfying.
These stories take a variety of shapes: playable stories, explorable installations, sleight-of-hand magic performances, in-person games, Alternative Reality Games, and story-driven puzzles. If you come along for the ride with me, I hope you’ll find my work too story-driven to feel like a puzzle, and too much like something you can play or explore to just be a story.
I hope you will find it thought provoking and moving. I hope you will find it visceral and exciting. I hope you’ll play along.
